Home EV Charger Installation

A Level 2 charger adds roughly 20 to 40 miles of range per hour of charging, compared with just a few miles per hour from a standard wall outlet. That’s enough to fully recharge most EVs overnight. We install Tesla Wall Connectors, ChargePoint, and other major brands, as well as 240-volt outlets for plug-in chargers.

Do I Need a Panel Upgrade?

Not always. A Level 2 charger typically needs a dedicated 40 to 60 amp circuit. Many homes have room for it, but older homes with 100-amp service sometimes don’t. We check your panel during the free estimate and tell you straight whether an upgrade is needed. If your panel is close to its limit, a load management device can sometimes avoid a costly service upgrade.

How Much Does EV Charger Installation Cost?

Cost depends mainly on the distance from your electrical panel to your parking spot, the wire size your charger needs, and whether a panel upgrade is required. We give you a clear written quote after a free on-site estimate, with no surprises.

Commercial & Multi-Unit EV Charging

We install charging stations for businesses, municipalities, and multi-family properties, including networked ChargePoint stations and the electrical service upgrades they require. Tri-Star Electric is an approved contractor for the Joint Utilities of New York EV Make-Ready Program.

EV Charger FAQs

Can you install a charger in a detached garage?

Usually, yes. The cost depends on how far the wiring needs to run and whether trenching or conduit is required.

Will an EV charger raise my electric bill?

Charging adds to your electricity use. Charging overnight on a time-of-use rate, if your utility offers one, can help lower the cost.

Can EV chargers be installed outdoors?

Yes. Most Level 2 chargers are rated for outdoor use, and we use weatherproof wiring and mounting.
